Valeria Clark
Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, in 1961 to a first generation Russian immigrant family, I was influenced by street fights, ethnic food, and the excess design sense of the Russian Orthodox Church. I shared a room with my older sister, whose bookshelves contained Carlos Castaneda, Krishnamurti, and the Tibetan Book of the Dead. In the early '8os, I attended Parsons School of Design in New York. Over the years, my day job has been a graphic designer, while my creative life has been greatly influenced by Buddhist art and sculpture, creating conceptual pieces and traditional oils that lead the viewer past the mundane for a moment and ultimately to non-self.
